Etymology of bibliophile


First attested in 1824 in French bibliophile from Ancient Greek βιβλιο - (biblio-) "of or pertaining to books".
φίλος -(philos) " beloved".


1. One who loves books.

2. One who obsessively collects books, not necessarily due to any interest in reading them.
